Eye Pain and Headache
When vision is the cause
Visual strain from focusing (accommodation), binocular vision compensation, uncorrected refractive errors, and dry eye can provoke headaches, particularly with prolonged screen use.
Common eye-related causes
- accommodation spasm;
- latent hyperopia;
- astigmatism;
- anisometropia;
- convergence insufficiency or hidden strabismus;
- dry eye;
- incorrect glasses or contact lenses;
- digital eye strain.
How we check
Assessment may include:
- vision and refraction testing, often with cycloplegia when needed;
- binocular function evaluation;
- tear film assessment;
- eye pressure measurement;
- slit-lamp examination;
- fundus examination as indicated.
When to seek care
See a specialist if: headaches are recurrent; they are linked to reading or screen work; or they are accompanied by eye discomfort or visual symptoms.
