Pterygium
When tissue growth on the eye needs an ophthalmologist
Pterygium is a benign growth of conjunctival tissue that can extend onto the cornea, most often from the nasal side.
While benign, pterygium can cause irritation, cosmetic concerns, and astigmatism or vision changes if it progresses.
Key risk factor
Long-term UV exposure, along with wind, dust, smoke, and chronic surface irritation.
What we do
We perform slit-lamp examination, staging, vision assessment, and monitoring for progression. Protective measures are advised, and referral for surgery is arranged if vision is threatened.
